HOME > Research Activities      TKM information research refers to the informatization of TKM knowledge by incorporating knowledge resources for TKM overall into databases and by setting up a standard TKM information system. Such research helps the discovery of traditional literature; accumulate source knowledge on TKM through Korean translations and modernization; informatize overall TKM knowledge; and build a standard information system in a bid to allow efficient utilization of traditional knowledge and information.   These efforts contribute to laying the foundation for medical experience and knowledge built up over millennia to be used from a modern perspective, creating new value.         Medical History and Literature Research Center  The Medical History and Literature Research Center is mandated to discover TKM knowledge and build its database for the purpose of preserving such traditional medicine and effective technologies. It performs the following research activities:   The center explores ancient literature on TKM; translates and arranges it in modern Korean for publication; analyzes basic TKM theories; and searches for and disseminates traditional knowledge and information from ancient literature that are applicable to modern times. In addition, the center establishes the history of TKM by studying medical orthodoxies reflected in TKM literature as well as facts on the history of medicine. The results of such research are available at http://jisik. kiom.re.kr through its web service entitled Collection of Classical Masterpieces of TKM.       The center has also sought to publicize TKM all around the world in a number of ways including publication and dissemination of English translations. In particular, the center is preparing to host both academic and industrial events commemorating the 400th anniversary of the publication of Donguibogam (Principles and Practice of Eastern Medicine), a representation of TKM that is registered as the UNESCO World Record Heritage.         Information Research Center  Through studies into a standard TKM informatization system and informatization of domestic and overseas TKM knowledge resources, the Information Research Center provides an information infrastructure and performs researches involving both TKM and IT/BT in an effort to enable efficient use of TKM knowledge and information.
