Korea Institute of Oriental Medicine (KIOM) was founded in 1994 with the purpose of contributing to healthy life by creatively developing Korean medicine. Since then, KIOM has solidified the basis of R&D in Korean medicine through scientific verification, standardization, and globalization of the field. Furthermore, KIOM is rising as one of the world’s leading institutions in traditional medicine through global open innovation.
Today, with the rapid increase in the prevalence of chronic and intractable diseases, which can hardly be cured by contemporary medicine alone, there are growing evidences that Korean medicine can be the new answer. In addition, as the focus of medical demand is shifting from treatment to prevention of diseases and improvement in the quality of life, Korean medicine is drawing attention for its potential for making a much larger contribution with scientific evidences.
Based on its infrastructure and knowledge accumulated for more than 20 years, KIOM will strive to produce outcomes perceivable by the public, through research that brings substantial contribution to the Korean medicine industry and relevant medical settings. It will also exert itself to develop new high value-added businesses by creating future medical technologies based on the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
Korean medicine is both our heritage still being utilized at present and a key to open the door to the future medicine centered on personalized and preventive care. We would like to request your warm support for KIOM as it continues its research to bring long and healthy lives to more.
