Korea Institute of Oriental Medicine (KIOM) was established under the goal of contributing to the
healthy life of humankind, as a national R&D hub in Korean medicine (KM), by creatively developing
and adding new values to its rich heritage. Since its inception in 1994, the institute has overcome
difficulties and adverse circumstances along with other organizations in science and Korean medicine.
KIOM has now developed into a full-fledged institution.
Looking ahead to the next 20 years, KIOM is poised to focus all its competence and efforts on the revitalization
of clinical practices and the Korean medicine industry for Korean medicine to be further integrated into the
life of the Korean public. To realize these objectives, KIOM will strengthen specialized convergence studies
combining research resources in Korean medicine and today’s cutting-edge medical and
scientific research resources to fulfill the expectations of the nation and all those in the fields of
Korean medicine and science and technology, and to ultimately enhance the happiness of our people.
In addition, KIOM is determined to renew itself as the world-class research institute in traditional medicine through
building and implementing the mid- and long-term development strategy based on its accumulated research capabilities.
It will also strive to contribute to the improvement of public health and gratification of expectations.
KIOM promises to create new values to our heritage.
